Four years after purchasing the state government’s former Supreme and District Court site for $63 million, developer Shayher Group is well on its way to delivering Brisbane’s first world-class integrated mixed-use precinct, as construction of three city-shaping high-rise hotel, office and apartment towers gathers pace.
The centrepiece of the Brisbane Quarter development along the Brisbane River is W Brisbane, with the five-star luxury lifestyle hotel chain, W Hotels, choosing Brisbane as the perfect location to re-enter the Australian market. Construction of three towers (hotel, commercial, residential) set atop a podium of three storeys with basement car parking, was awarded to global contractor, Multiplex.
Australia’s first purpose-built W Hotel will be the first five-star branded hotel to open in the city in two decades, with work now progressed past the two-storey retail, ballroom level and pool deck to the sixth storey. W Brisbane will be the first of the three towers to be completed around March next year.
The 42-storey commercial tower is up to Level 6, with completion expected in late 2019. The tower offers 63,000sqm of prime commercial space, with Queensland’s biggest superannuation fund, Q Super, already signing with the Shayher Group to take up 15,000sqm as its head office.
The residential component of the development, which will incorporate a riverside retail and dining precinct as well as 467 apartments across 82 storeys, is still in the design phase.
Shayher director John Lin commented, “Brisbane is rapidly moving ahead with a new era of growth and we see our Brisbane Quarter project as one of the milestone CBD developments that will shape the city’s future.”
