Sunshine Plaza’s highly anticipated redevelopment has gained final owners’ approval, with works set to commence shortly to expand the centre from 73,000 square metres to over 107,000 square metres.

The $400 million project will affirm Sunshine Plaza’s position as the largest retail centre north of Brisbane, evolving the centre into a leading fashion, leisure and tourist destination, with an enhanced retail mix including the region’s first David Jones department store, a new BIGW and a refurbished Myer. It will also include a stunning new Amaroo Street mall entrance, provision for large format fashion operators and over 100 new specialty stores, bringing highly sought-after fashion brands to the Sunshine Coast.

The transformed centre will feature new outdoor waterfront dining along Cornmeal Creek, further enhancing the unique ‘indoor / outdoor’ experience Sunshine Plaza is so fondly renowned for.

Customers will have convenient access to the improved centre, with two new multi-level car parks being built to add over 1,400 additional car spaces, taking the total number of car parks to nearly 5,000.

The redevelopment will stimulate the local economy, boosting employment and offering further opportunities to retailers. It is estimated the project will generate up to 2,900 jobs during construction and approximately 2,300 additional retail positions upon completion.

Construction of the project will commence shortly and will take approximately two years, with completion prior to Christmas 2018.
