Sunshine Coast – Oceanside Kawana

One of the largest infrastructure projects ever undertaken on the Sunshine Coast is set to get underway. Oceanside Kawana is the new name for the central Kawana region that is planned to transform into an estimated $5 billion world-class destination.

The 100-hectare site encompasses Birtinya, Bokarina Beach and the future town centre and commercial precinct. At the heart of Oceanside Kawana is the multi-billion dollar Health Hub and Sunshine Coast Health Campus – a vibrant 24/7 precinct that will become one of the most vital health and medical research districts anywhere in Australia, incorporating the 200-bed Sunshine Coast University Private Hospital and the near-complete $1.8 billion Sunshine Coast Public University Hospital.

The Oceanside town centre will be a sub-regional shopping centre with department store, supermarkets, specialty stores, cafes and tavern and entertainment as well as community and cultural facilities such as a library and learning centre, parks and open spaces.

Bokarina Beach will be revitalised with the addition of 300 houses and 800 apartments to a maximum of eight storeys, as well as a new surf club, community facilities and parks. People and places will be linked through corridors between beaches and waterways, business and residential.

With new roads, bridges, parks and services to be created on a massive scale, the total economic benefit during the development of Oceanside is forecast to top $5.3 billion over the next 15 years and generate more than 3,000 jobs per annum during the development phase. On completion, it is expected to create approximately 12,000 ongoing jobs and contribute $828 million annually to the local and state economy.

Embracing two new hospitals, a multi-million-dollar health hub and health campus, new Town Centre, a transit hub, shops, cafes and health services Oceanside will be a healthy city by the beach, a premium beachside community with new ideas and innovations. It will deliver a whole new way of living for the coast, where homes, shopping, entertainment, business, health services, tourism and jobs all co-exist in a single location that also happens to be a postcard sun, sand and surf setting.
